gingerbread house frosting superglue

gingerbread

This is it. The BEST frosting for gingerbread house making.

It is super sticky and dries/hardens in about 30 seconds. No more wishing you had eight arms to hold the gingerbread pieces together!

I equate this frosting to superglue… it’s that effective. The best part? It’s SUPER easy to make!

What you will need:
A large bowl and spatula
A butter knife
A quart sized ziplock bag
Scissors

Ingredients:
1 ½ tablespoons of meringue powder *
2 cups of powdered sugar
2 tablespoons of cold water

* you can buy the meringue powder at any cake decorating shop/cake decorating department in a grocery store (Michael’s, JoAnn’s etc. I even saw them at WalMart. I bought mine from JoAnn’s). Here’s what the container looks like:

meringue

In a bowl, combine the dry ingredients: the meringue powder and the powdered sugar. Use the spatula to mix the dry ingredients together.

Add 2 tablespoons of cold water and mix everything together.

You want to get the consistency to be very thick.

Your mixture is thick enough when you take out your butter knife and see a clean path left behind when you cut into the mixture.

You can change up the consistency by adding more sugar if it is too runny. If it is too thick, you can add a small amount of water.

Scoop the icing in a ziplock bag and cut off a small piece of the corner. It’s better to cut a small hole and decide if you want to make it bigger later on, than to cut too big of a hole and find the frosting dumping out of the bag.

If you are looking for an affordable gingerbread house, Ikea sells them for $5.00 per house. You can purchase them here.

Have fun with your sweet superglue!
